I really never update this crap anymore, i dont care about it but someone out there might care or read it. I've had glandular fever the last few weeks (thanks Bec) which has sucked, been pretty much doing nothing except watching dvds:
Black Books Seasons 1-3 (this show is great, i love the british humour)
Scrubs Season 3 (its Scrubs! It has to be good)
I have this friend who keeps messaging me to come out but hes kind of arrogant and annoying and i kind of feel bad for him, hes having a birthday this weekend and i might pass on it, partly because my doctor says i cant drink for 6 months because apparantly my liver sucks from the drinking i do in general(but i dont drink that much!) and the glandular fever. Im on calcium tablets too at the moment since i dont get enough calcium apparantly, not enough milkshakes methinks!

Well its been awhile since i updated so i should fill this spot with my goings on. I got a letter in the mail last week from Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service. They ceased a package i had ordered from Brazil which was a preorder i had made of Boris's Mabuta No Ura box set on the essence label. The letter stated that the box had contained "DRIED DAISIES" that needed to undergo "GAMMA IRRADIATION". How much would this procedure cost? $45. I wasnt even aware this boxset was going to have flowers in it nor did I think this would be quarantined but apparantly dried flowers are banned upon import. Im suprised this was even quarantined. So the boxset initially cost me $70 anyway which was expensive, now its going to cost $115, most expensive album ever!

So its been a bit of a task saving for Melbourne since unexpected expenses always seem to come up. I havent been spending money on music lately, although i guess i saw Antony & The Johnsons the other day which was really enjoyable but a little hot. I'm not sure what we're doing in Melbourne as of yet, i think we're seeing a Japanese band the night we get there(Feb 16th) and im assuming wandering some museums and a lot of walking. I want to look further down Brunswick St this time, thats about all i have on my agenda and hopefully check out some fun clubs.
My friend Bec got back from Europe the other day, she was attacked in Paris by some people which really sucked. I lent her my ipod which got stolen but insurance covers it. She gave me her spare phone when she got back as well so ive said goodbye to my 5110 "brick" phone and upgraded to this new phone which has vibration and colour screen and even a camera! Yeah i am a few years behind but i resisted for so long.
I have no idea what else is going on in my life, ive been hanging out a bit with friends and working casually and looking for full time work soon, i havent really been out socially enough as i have liked. I still dont understand women and its kind of funny since i still dont pick up on the signals. Its kind of crazy actually what might happen in the next six months, who knows? |

1. Joanna Newsom and Smog @ Globe (sure the standing arrangement sucked and there was no air conditioning but that was nothing once Joanna took the stage).
2. Sigur Ros @ Tivoli (i was front row for this gig as well, this band evokes so much emotion)
3. The Go! Team @ The Zoo ( this gig was so dancey and so much fun!)
4. Gang Gang Dance @ Powerhouse (as we left sunn o)) i was amazed to here this crazy synth/chant type music, "what was this?" a beautifully suprising band)
5. Interpol @ Splendour (I guess i'll put this at no.5 since i really love this band, i never saw them at the zoo earlier and besides them being at splendour it was still great i thought)

Some important news!
Les Savy Fav are returning to the Zoo March 3rd(a day after my birthday). This was my favourite gig last year, probably my favourite gig ever? Actually im trying to recall my favourite gigs this year, Joanna Newsom and Sigur Ros are definitely up there.
Harry Potter is in cinemas December 1st. I havent read Half Blood Prince yet but it will be interesting to see how they reproduce Goblet Of Fire to a movie since the book covers a large amount of detail.
Im still addicted to buying records and i really do need to stop soon, well lack of money can always prevent this... |

Well i went and saw Joanna Newsom and Smog tonight and it was pretty amazing, i took a camera along for the first time and i tried taking pictures and a video and i have to emphasise the "tried" part. Anyway here is one picture that is pretty blurry:

News: I picked up Mercury Rev's All is Dream and Deserter's Songs in a package for $10 at Rockinghorse, i think thats a bargain! I actually didnt realise how good All Is Dream is as im paying more attention to the lyrics, its dreamy, beautiful and imaginative.
I also picked up Vice magazine which im beginning to despise, most of the articles are utter crap. The one article that really gave me the shits was "How to kill your parents and lose their remains". The article goes on how to not get caught. Now, ok its meant to be a joke and humourous in that sick sort of way but whats the point of it? Really....
Ok i've got a little story to share which happened the other night, these drunk people were outside as i went into subway and after i finished ordering a six inch sub one of them came in and started calling me Paul McCartney and he kept the door open for me till i came outside then as i came outside his mates were waiting for me with a video camera and one of them had a pen and paper and wanted me to give them an autograph. So i did. It was an odd experience all in all, so lets see if there is any similarities:

My friend Chris and I go through phases of different sports. It used to be bowling until we overdid that, now we're playing pool and snooker every weekend, lets see how long this lasts.. It's good having money, oh yes!! |

I have an amazing large assignment due this Thursday and its a group assignment. One of the guys is away in singapore for the assessment(left last friday), the other guy ive known for quite awhile, his name is Scott and I really dont think i can work with him anymore, he dramatizes things way too much, like if there is a problem its the end of the world and i cant handle conflict very well, this should be interesting.
The last couple of weeks has been filled up with the usual random goodness that is my life. So uni has been taking up a lot of my time. The Mountain Goats were enjoyable last week with a few crazy fans thrown in for good measure. Work has been interesting, there has been new people who started, one who went to my high school and i later found out who left at the end of year 11. He was a quite kind of guy and had this arrogant persona about him and he was always better than me at maths(and I used to be the one who wanted to be the best at maths in my class). Anyway he didnt remember me when i spoke to him that night and the conversation followed like this:
"So it's been awhile.."
"I only started tonight"
(me under the impression he still remembered me)"ohh... uhh so when did you leave high school"
"At the end of year 11"
"So do you remember me"
"No..I have a bad memory"
"The short red headed guy..."
"No"
In other news I became interested in texas hold em poker awhile ago, one of my friends spoke to me about it and I watched it a bit on tv, then played a bit online. Treasury casino has texas hold em downstairs now and i went there Thursday night with a friend to try my luck. I ended up walking away with $1500 which is pretty insane since i dont gamble that much and i've never had that amount of money in my wallet ever. I missed Spoon that night which I heard was quite an extended set.

I remember when my primary school teacher in grade 2(7 years of age) told me never to use the word "nice" because she thought it was such a terrible word to call something "nice". Which I can understand somewhat since it is a word that means being "pleasing and agreeable in nature" and she was quite the cranky person.
Anyway this story relates to a word I was pondering that I quite dislike and it could be nice's younger cousin. "To find pleasant or attractive", "to want or have" and "to feel about" is to "like". I'm just sick of hearing the word "like" to describe something or to feel about something. After writing this last sentence i realise the sentence before ive used the word dislike, so I am hypocrite myself. Anyway its not just that, it is also the way people use it to fill in voids in sentences while speaking "like there was this guy, like like", sorry I had to use the teenage girl stereotype.
I was reading Jerry Seinfeld's Sein-Language and ive discovered unfortunately that most of the jokes, if not all are from the Seinfeld show. Speaking of which ive obtained season 4 which ive been watching right now. There's not many shows which I can say I love, Seinfeld is one of them. |

Is it just me or has the local street press been lacking lately?
So I finally decided to experiment in doing something different and record my dreams for a month, I dont know how this will go, but I recorded 4 dreams last night. I never realised I dreamed this much till I recorded whatever I had dreamt as soon as I awoke. So it should be interesting to say the least.
I got an extra copy of the xiu xiu/devendra banhart split 7" in the mail today so what I am going to do is if you're in Australia and you want this, first person reply here. The Xiu Xiu side is pretty great, Devendra chose a strange song to cover of Xiu Xiu but he does it in his own style.
I was looking at the gig guide and ive come up with some gigs I plan to see in the next month or 2:

Foo Fighters(might sister made me go, or maybe I just wanted to see the Kaiser Chiefs)
I think I missed something there, I was sure there was more stuff to see!?!
I made a mix cd yesterday which I forgot to hide in the library today, I made some mix cds for people at my work as well. Three people at my work in the last week have told me I am "weird" for the music I listen to, since i got them to listen to Art Brut's "Bang Bang Rock n Roll" which is totally a fun album which im loving at the moment. The weirdness also comes from me not agreeing with any of the songs that are played on triple m during work, as much as I'd love to say "yes I like that", I dont.
Some odd thing or question rather I pondered today when someone asked me for money to catch public transport home is "Does that person actually need money or is this person scamming me?". Because 9 out of 10 times I would say "no I cant spare change" to the person because usually its a scruffy looking person which I may or may not ignorantly assume is homeless and is trying to scab money for smokes etc. Anyway this person today was fairly decently dressed and needed money specifically for a bus to Nundah so I decided to give the money. So I guess what I am saying is I judge people based on how they look whether they will get money from me, if a messy person asked me for money and genuinely need money to travel I would be discriminating them. Is that right? |

I went and saw Tujiro Noriko downstairs at Fatboys last night. It was a pretty great night considering I was very close to not going as I had uni work to do(but i ended up getting that done so all good). It was a pretty intimate setting for the night, Rational Academy played first, they seem to have potential. I bought Tujiko's cd Blurred in my Mirror which after listening is quite enjoyable. Tujiko played a set with Lawrence and the lead guitarist of Rational who played some interesting fuzzy space rock(thats what ill call it) and a guy xylophone, bongos etc. I quite enjoyed their set, most of Lawrence's sound was uniquely different and interesting all the same. Tujiko has a lovely stage presence i have to admit accompanied with the "fuzzy spacy guitar" the set was enjoyable(except for the girl standing in front of me). Afterwards we went to Ric's upstairs to view her film. I was pretty tired at this point and had trouble following the movie, The character's conscience and reality and what the character was dealing with throughout the film I'm not sure what it was all about(she was sleeping with her brother and her father had died?) but I liked it in a round-about-way.
Speaking of movies, i saw Land of the Dead tonight and i have to say its pretty crap. I've never been a zombie movie fan or seen any "the dead" movies, except Shaun of the Dead but does that count? Ha! Basically Zombies get emo and start getting human qualities, actually I saw some zombies walking past my bus stop tonight-but thats another story.
I want to share some music that I've come to enjoy recently:
Engineers - Come In Out Of The Rain - Its shoegazey spacey indie rock, I can hear a dash of Slowdive in there, beautiful.
William Campbell & Kevin MacNeil - Local Man Ruins Everything - I bought this 7" on a whim and I dont regret it. Its a beautiful story sung over a simple yet beautiful guitar piece.
Editors - Blood - Ok so this guy sounds like the lead singer of Interpol and this song is a little repetitious BUT! its damn catchy and I wouldnt hesitate to dance to this I cant help it.
Animal Collective - Feels - Finally but not surely I have Animal Collective's new one, which im enjoying greatly, i guess one word to describe this album is "warm". They dont mind people sharing this album either, but I dont think i'll have it up forever.. |

I think its time to update on whats been happening.. So i saw Sigur Ros tonight which was quite amazing to say the least. Amina played beforehand who are also from Iceland. They were quite good, they were also the strings section for Sigur Ros later. Sigur Ros played songs from most of their albums, their new songs sounded great. I managed to get front row after some girl fainted through the second song. I would of liked a setlist but a few other "hardcore" sigur ros fans seemed to want it more ha.

I saw this movie tonight, "9 Songs", I dont know really how i feel about it after watching it. It tries to portray a 20s something couple, who enjoy music and sex. This movie goes for 69 minutes and a large majority of it includes sex. Im not talking your usual sex scene, im talking about almost porn like scenes. I dont mind viewing sex in movies, it was the amount of it that i couldnt handle. They had some bands which I enjoy throughout the movie, Franz Ferdinand, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Elbow and many more. I just wish the movie had more depth in the characters or something really.
Last night i saw the Hot Snakes, which i thought put on a good show. As far as i know they're breaking up very shortly with a few places left to tour after Australia. I hadn't heard them until a week or so ago and they're sound is quite addictive. To describe them is hard for me, some type of complex punk music, but they create this original sound without doing anything really new.
I've become addicted to Texas Holdem Poker, apparantly its coming to the Treasury Casino in a couple of weeks, its a pretty fun game to watch and play, I think i need to stay away from the casino when it does come.
Results should be coming next week for uni and im pretty paranoid about it, you'd think there would be better things to dream about than your results |

So its that time of the year when everyone is studying hard and enjoying the social comforts of staying in the confides of home only venturing occasionally outside to get their daily dose of Vitamin D.
A very good site ive come across is this site here. Lots of news and random stuff that im interested in.
I dont know if anyone out there has seen many movies recently, I saw Longest Yard with a friend the other week, I have to say it was pretty awful although my friend liked it(he chose it). I'm looking forward to seeing this movie when it comes out here, hopefully it does. It received awards at the Cannes festival and such:

I've been listening to a bit of music lately. An Album which im ranking as probably in my top 5 for this year so far is Wooden Wand's "l'un marquer contre la moissonneuse". It has 4 tracks, 2 really long ambient type tracks with organic sounds mixed in with folk like elements. Anyway im sharing the second song Counterfeit Kingdom which is a shorter song with more basic folk-like elements and an enjoyable song nonetheless.

I started playing online scrabble. Just another means of procrastination, we all need something to fill that area. Qaid is a word?
Sigur Ros tickets go on sale on Thursday and im going to assume this will sellout! So get in quick people :) The last event that i was more excited to attend then Sigur Ros would have been Les Savy Fav, so its quite important to me.
I received a Book on Mormon tonight from a guy who came and sat down next to me at the bus stop. He read a page of my report on Development of a region in Logan then started asking me questions about it. He then proceeded to share about the Church Of Latter Day Saints. I believe in God but I dont go to church or talk about it but I believe. The thing about people who like to share about their religion is that they always seem so happy and they've got this amazing thing to share with you, I think i'd like to have this amazing "happy" for a bit but I'm not doing anything religious to get it or am I going to take drugs(anymore). |

I have the new xiu xiu album uploaded onto webspace, if anyone wants it let me know(if anyone reads this), im enjoying it, different to Fabulous Muscles but still very Xiu Xiu, some really good songs on it.
I saw someone with this shirt in the myer centre a couple days ago:
Splendour In The Grass is already sold out, wow, good job scalpers. I dont have a ticket but a friend of a friend has bought an extra weekend ticket by accident so there might be an option for me there.
And now a question, If someone alternates between being confident and lacking self confidence is that a sign of a character flaw? Or is just a natural wave of human emotion depending on feelings, where we are, what we're doing? Probably a simple question to answer for some..
